PIE IN THE SKY (ABSURDIST CYNICISM)
It seems that the expression: ‘Pie in the sky’ implies that you have to fly to eat it.
‘Death before dishonour’ seems condemnatory of corpses.
Are we then to assume that graveyards are disreputable places?
‘There’s honour among thieves’ leaves me wondering if Honor Blackman was a prison visitor.
If a giant bends down to pick up a chestnut, does he ‘stoop to conker?’
‘My word is my bond’ merchants don’t take into account that any stupid oaf can take a solemn oath.
‘Use your loaf’ is ridiculous advice for bakers.
If the religious Society of Friends were more ‘green’, they’d be seen as ‘Earth-Quakers!’
Not many people look like bladders, but they still appear to be piss-takers.
